A new paper, published in Environmental Science and Technology, highlights the work directed towards the use of novel mixed metal oxide materials for the electrosynthesis of high oxidation state iron species. The study showcases new reaction synthesis pathways for high and intermediate state ferrate species, as well as their application towards pollutant degradation. This study also provides a foundation for the use of new, cheaper and easier to fabricate materials, when compared to conventional high oxygen overpotential electrode materials.
