New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) Annual Conference

On January 22nd, 2024, Faye Kuszewski and Shane Hancox attended the New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) Annual Conference located in Boston, Massachusetts. 

Faye participated in the annual graduate student poster competition. This competition encourages master’s and PhD students involved in research to present their findings on topics such as water pollution control, water quality, and other concerns of environmental engineering. Faye presented her poster on the enhanced electrochemical oxidation of Orange II dye using a Fe-TAML catalyst. Her results demonstrated that for this study, the use of an Fe-TAML catalyst is an effective means of significantly reducing energy requirements (~90% decrease in kWh/m3) for electrochemical oxidation processes.

Shane Hancox presented his work in the Small Communities session. In this oral session, speakers presented on emerging water quality tools for small communities across the globe. Shane’s presentation titled “Towards More Economical Water Treatment: The Development of Robust and Low-Cost Electrodes for On-Site Chlorine Generation”, he discussed the promising prospect of alternative materials for decentralized water treatment.
